saved by the bell
I finally received the beautiful zines by Miranda Reinert. (I say finally bc there was a postal strike in Canada and the mail is slowly getting back to its usual pace) She's a music writer, zine enthusiast and podcast host.
These zines are simply stunning. The paper texture is a dream, and the way she rendered most of her photographs extra-grainy is a visual treat.
Her zines feel special in the hand. She's inspired me to think about making a different kind of zine. A zine with a more coheasive theme, and perhaps even making one through a printing house. What a nourishing experience it is to be creatively energized by other artists and writers.
I think her blog runs on Ghost, and I'm once again tempted to start a blog there lol. I finally found a theme I really like called Beirut. It's simple and clean and I love all the features it has: the gallery pics, the ability to add audio clips, and being able to lock posts for a select few is all very enticing. But sometimes I feel like it might be a bit overkill for the way I write. Something to ponder anyway.

I'm spending the weekend up at my bf's house. Since he has to work today, i'm spending the day with him at his school. I'm currently sitting in the principle's lounge area (it has a v comfy leather couch), sipping a Timmies, and typing at a desk overlooking a field/parking lot. I even brought my dog, who is strolling around in here like he owns the place.
I never liked grade school growing up apart from it being a social gathering place with my friends, but I do still love school supplies. Even now, when September rolls around, I still get that nostalgic feel for buying new notebooks, pens and other scholastic things. 🤓
you're my internet crush
💌 I feel lucky to have stumbled on a few new-to-me bearblog neighbors and have spent most of this morning perusing their sites. I've added all of them to my RSS <3
💌 This zine project is a great example of how one sheet of paper can be a complete publication. During the pandemic, Marc Fischer wrote a one-page zine called Quaranzine and collaborated with many artists and writers. Makes me want to learn risograph printing. I then perused Half Letter Press and bought a few paper missives. A Single Sheet Publication, and 11x17 issues 1-15. I can't wait to read these!
