internet break, zines, and moving to ko-fi
I've been taking a mini internet break these past few days.
I've been feeling a little under the weather, physically (with an earache) and emotionally (my mental health has been quite poor).
Doing my best to read > screens. Lately: Zines from Ellen, still reading Memento Mori by Joanna Ebenstein, and rereading Things Seen by Annie Ernaux at night in bed.
I've been getting back into writing "morning pages" with my coffee this week.
Notebook themes/topics
I want to dedicate a place on my blog for a photo diary.
Practice writing personal essays.
Read one book a month (I'm setting the bar low, on purpose, to keep it manageable).
Share more snippets of book passages I love and keep a catalog of them somewhere.
I've been journaling with Tarot and oracle cards lately, and I'd like to share some prompts/thoughts on my blog(??)
Top focus: write and finish one zine a month. I'd like a dedicated print-space to incorporate my drawings, as they need a home outside my sketchbook!
Learn/share how I manage money as an artist.
Share more how-to's with zines/journal writing.
Practice my guitar more consistently.
Start recording voice notes on a platform somewhere :D (this has been on my mind for a while now). A soft audio diary <3
In other news...I changed platforms from Buy Me A Coffee to Ko-fi.
I've been with BMAC for almost two years now. I liked it enough—until I didn't.
I was hesitant to move, but after much research, I decided that Ko-fi provided better-stylized options, a cleaner UI (esp with emails), and the ability to add different shipping methods for physical goods. As an artist, this was an important feature. I've been using Big Cartel to ship my zines and art, but the monthly $22 + tax charge makes it overkill.
The option of being able to tip what you like whenever you want and then gain access to all my extra posts for the whole month feels pressure-free. Then, repeat whenever you want back in. It makes sharing sketchbook peeks, my zine-making process, and personal writing feel fun:)
Also, could Ko-fi be a cozy space for me to explore sharing an audio diary?
heart-ons
I made my Google-doc diary into a zine.
Spectrolite is GOLD! It's a Mac desktop app for making colorful risograph prints, zines, and books. The layout section is invaluable.
Sons & Daughters. Every town across Canada has a Chinese-Canadian café.
Loop zine. LOOP is a sporadic small-batch zine exploring the quiet art of string games.
