creative experiments
investigations
I've been trying a few creative experiments lately with art/writing forms. Instead of keeping ideas in a thought loop, I've been implementing them and seeing how they feel instead of intellectually analyzing them like I usually do. It's a work in progress, and I'm still figuring them out, but they've already proved quite helpful!
experiment findings
I've always wanted to do proper zine reviews as I love sharing photos and little noticings about what zines I'm reading, but when it came down to providing an "in-depth review," the whole thing felt like a chore. It was hard to push forward. Perhaps I need to come to it from a different angle.
I've been writing on my Ko-fi page, and I quite like the feel of it. The support model creates this liberating dynamic - people can offer one-time contributions if something resonates or quietly subscribe monthly. This removes the pressure on both ends and gives me the freedom to focus on authentic sharing. I'm really enjoying it so far!
sketchbook practice
I've been trying to doodle little characters and letting my pen wander. I've also been trying on different styles to see if I can come up with something new.
what I'm working on this week
I'm learning how to make website buttons on my iPad. It's been a bit of a learning curve, as my iPad skills aren't stellar, but it's a fun little project. They're obviously about zines and art, lol. Sneak peek coming soon!
curious listening
I'm immersed in Curious Listening, a music review zine by Gold Flake Paint. Each lilac page unfolds as a soft-poetic portal to countless bands I've never heard of. I'm savoring each review, making a point to listen to a few tracks from each artist before moving on to the next. Such a treat!
The little thank you blurb at the beginning of the zine:
Thank you for being curious enough to read and listen; for buying this physical object and holding it in your physical world as everything around us becomes less physical by the day.
