potential newness

I'm reading the book The Woman Destroyed by Simone De Beauvoir, and she wrote a passage that made me think about my dad.

To be sure, in his letters Freud did say that at a given age one no longer discovers anything new, and that is terribly sad.

At one point, before he even got sick, my dad said that there wasn't anything else to experience in this world. That he had done and seen everything this world had to offer, and it broke my heart to hear that.

I can't imagine a day when my curiosity could be stifled by the passage of time. I feel like I could never get my fill of the potential newness around the corner.
