i saw a moose! 🫎
I spent the week in Algonquin Park and saw my first moose!
What a serendipitous sighting! We went looking for moose every day we were there, and finally on the last day, as it rained out, we spotted one. Just a young thing, as he didn't have his full antlers. K and I were the only ones who saw him <3
Other creatures I saw in the wilderness:
🫎 a yellow-bellied woodpecker who pretty much stayed on the same tree in our camp the whole week
🫎 a little toad
🫎 a brave chipmunk who ate the nuts we flung for him under Millie's (K's parents' dog) watchful eye
🫎 a wild turkey with her two baby poults
🫎 huge ravens
We hiked the new Fork Lake Trail, and I almost diiied. The trail was deemed difficult, but we weren't aware that it meant going up and down huge hills the entire time. I guess that's what difficult means, ha. At one point, my leg was in so much pain, I thought I wouldn't be able to make it out. My leg was fucked for a couple of days, I couldn't bend it at all, but it's much better now. Perhaps my "hikes" in Toronto are leisurely walks through parks after all.
lately
I'm in my old lady bird-watching era. I even bought a bird guide while I was in Algonquin.
K got me a Paper Apps notebook game (galaxy edition). Adorable! It comes with a pencil dice, but I think I'm going to get a little dice set.
Every small town K and I visit, we seek out their antique shops. K is into vintage lighters, and I'm always on the lookout for tiny wooden crates (for my mini zines), quilts, and vintage cookbooks. Oh, and 80's sweatshirts. The kind with wolves, eagles, or some Canadian campground. I found an 80s wolf crewneck sweatshirt and it's my fav.
