before dawn
A discarded breakfast plate to my left on my nightstand, balancing atop a pyramid of books and papers. A Timmies coffee on the swiveling "hospital table" to my right.
On the bed beside me: my yellow moleskin notebook, a book that I've been trying to finish for an eternity, my iPad, a charger, my bullet vibrator, my earphones, my phone.
In the pitch-black hour before dawn, I thought of you. I still wish I was your kind. I miss you.
I watched the pink and purple sunrise as I laid on my side and admired the changing light through the window.
