an almost extinct butterfly, thought-lists, and a new record
K and I went on a hike on the W Don River Trail, and we spotted a Karner Blue Butterfly! He was perched on some goldenrod.
When we passed by it on our way back, he was still there and opened up his wings for us to take a closer look. How beautiful!
When we got back to the car, we looked it up and found out that this species has been considered extirpated in Ontario since the 1990s! The reason? Loss of habitat.
They only live 5 days! Such short little lives they lead.
What's so incredible is that the previous day, when we visited a community vegetable garden, I spotted one there too. We didn't take a pic of that one, but I kept saying what a gorgeous little butterfly and how I've never seen one like it before.
Correction: Upon further research this butterfly is actually the Common Blue Butterfly. Oops! So bummed that we didn’t miraculously find an endangered butterfly haha. Oh well, it’s still a beautiful little thing <3

Practicing being bored.
Trying to reframe purpose. Instead of purpose being synonymous with achievement, what if it could be tied to an offering? What do I want to give? Who do I feel called to support/inspire? What if living for my own aliveness is the purpose?
The cicadas are still singing. I wonder on which September day I'll stop hearing them.
I miss waking up as a kid, and seeing my dad at the kitchen table, in his camel-colored robe, his hair disheveled from sleep, drinking his tea while reading the paper.
I can still hear people mowing their lawns, so summer is still alive.
K's mom made pickled beets and gave me a jar, and it's now my most prized possession. My precious.
Trying to find some slouchy pants that aren't too wide-legged.
Lilly Ashton's blog manifesto makes me so happy. She says of her blog:
"Engagement is distant here, like a phantom at the bottom of the lake that I can't make out."

anchors of contentment
- Making herbal tea.
- Tending to my plants.
- Journaling with cards.
- Reading a good book. I've decided to give Intermezzo another go. The last time I tried reading it, I couldn't get past her chaotic sentence structure. Now? It flows. I get it.
- Hikes with K and Muskoka.
- Doodling in my sketchbook with zero end product/goal in mind.
Went to Sonic Boom on the weekend and I picked up The Beaches' new record <3
